Elbow – Adriana Again
Elbow surprises fans with “Adriana Again”. The track follows their 2024 album “Audio Vertigo”, maintaining what frontman Guy Garvey describes as “naughty and gnarly” vibes. It’s the first taste of an upcoming EP slated for release next year.
The song’s character-driven narrative draws from Garvey’s past experiences in Manchester’s underground scene. “Adriana is a fictitious character, but based on a few real experiences,” he explains, recounting times spent at venues like The Temple Of Convenience and Corbiers. The track features what Garvey calls “some pretty Sabbathy guitars on the chorus” paired with Pete Turner’s sneaky bass groove in the verses.
The accompanying video features a mystery band, with Garvey playfully keeping their identity under wraps. This new release represents a return to the band’s roots in terms of process – recorded in a small room rather than pieced together digitally, capturing the energy of their early EP days. Garvey reflects on the artistic freedom that comes with EP releases, comparing them to “a short story rather than a novel”.
